How to Fish Save Location and Safe Backup

On Windows, PCGamingWiki documents How to Fish saves under %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Dazed Games\How to Fish\Saves\ as TXT files. Back up the entire folder before inspecting, moving or editing anything. GillGrid reads a selected file locally and does not upload it.

What to do

  1. Close the game before copying a save so the file is not being written while you back it up.
  2. Open File Explorer and paste the documented Windows folder path into the address bar. If it is absent, verify the Windows account and whether the game has created a save.
  3. Copy the full Saves folder to a separate location with a date in the backup name. Keep the original untouched.
  4. Use GillGrid's read-only inspector for file structure and candidate fields. It does not yet guarantee automatic fish, Drip or achievement mapping.
  5. For lost gear, compare a known earlier backup and the current file before changing anything. Do not download unknown 'repair' tools or overwrite your only save.
